Hi! We are Jack and Samantha Elliott. We’re a married couple from England who decided to overhaul our lives by becoming nomadic and training to be TEFL teachers as we work our way around the world. Why? Because there wasn’t much else happening for us back in the UK and it’s a great way to see the world and experience things we might never get a chance to otherwise.

In October 2013 we sold all of our stuff and quit our jobs to begin a life of travel. We began by taking part in a six-month teaching internship with a company in Thailand. The idea was that we’d be given the support required to catapult us from the rainy UK to fully qualified TEFL teachers in a Thai government school. This would give us the kick-start and the initial work experience we required to later go it alone wherever that may be.

In March 2014 our internship in Thailand came to an end and the real adventure began. Armed with six months teaching experience and qualifications we began working in Kunming, Yunnan province, China.

Between our time in Thailand and China we went traveling through Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam for seven weeks taking in sights such as Angkor Wat, Halong Bay, Pattaya’s Tiffany Show and eating some pretty interesting foods.

Whilst working in China we were fortunate enough to visit some interesting places. We visited Xi’an and saw the Terracotta Warriors and we saw the Yangtze river and giant pandas when we had a trip to Chongqing. We were even fortunate enough to visit Beijing and walk along the Great Wall of China!

We left China in December 2015 and after a short visit to the UK for Christmas we spent some time travelling around Morocco and living in Vienna, Austria for over a month. We are currently living and working in Spain where we intend to remain until 2017.

This website is a place for us to document our adventures and for our friends and family to keep in contact with us. I also hope that our first-hand experiences of navigating long-term travel and TEFL teaching help others who are contemplating doing the same.

If you’re here just browsing because you enjoy reading about travel or you’re interested in doing something like this yourself, give us a shout via the comments or the contact page as we’d love to connect with like-minded people.

 About Sam:

DSC_5169Sam is 29 and originally from Devon, England. She’s wanted to travel from the age of 12 when she kept a ring-binder of travel ideas but now she’s finally getting to travel she’s visiting places she’d previously never knew existed.

Sam has a degree in Scriptwriting for Film and TV which although hasn’t led her in the direction she thought it would, it has enabled her to fast track being a TEFL teacher and most importantly she met her now husband, Jack on the same course.

Sam is an amateur photographer and a bit of a workaholic, she’s mad about cats (but not a mad cat lady) and enjoys working as a teacher. She’s just started learning computer coding and also an online teaching business at Armada English.

Sam’s dream location is Vienna in Austria, and she got to spend a fair amount of time there in early 2016. It lived up to the hype and she thoroughly recommends it as a place to visit though not for TEFL work as there is none.

About Jack:

Use this picJack is 29 and studied Scriptwriting at Uni with Sam. Jack is more of a laid back character and enjoys clowning with the younger students at school; playing video games at home and climbing to the top of tall things like towers and mountains.

Jack likes to learn the names of animals in foreign languages and inventing games that involve demon pigs at school, as well as picking new places for us to visit.

Jack wants to visit lots of weird and wonderful places including Tibet, Namibia, South America and the Pacific Islands. We’re hoping to tick a few of these off in the next few years.
